What’s the difference between Farm Hounds hides and regular rawhide?
Industrial rawhide is made using toxic chemicals, including bleach and lye, to strip and process the outer layer of the hide. What’s left is a pale, compressed sheet that dogs can break apart quickly, creating a choking or blockage risk.
Farm Hounds hides are the complete, unprocessed hide — sourced from pasture-raised cattle, naturally dried, with no chemicals, no bleaching, and no synthetic additives. They’re thicker, longer-lasting, and your dog is actually chewing real food, not a chemically processed byproduct.
Are Farm Hounds hides safe for dogs?
Yes, and significantly safer than conventional rawhide. Because our hides aren’t chemically processed or artificially compressed, they don’t break apart into hard, sharp shards the way industrial rawhide can.
That said, all chewing should be supervised, especially when your dog is trying a new product or size for the first time. We recommend 15–20 minute sessions and storing the chew between uses. If your dog is a gulper rather than a chewer, start with a larger size so they can’t try to swallow it whole.
How long do the beef hide rolls last?
Significantly longer than most other chews on the market. Our hides are consistently rated by customers as lasting weeks or even months with regular use — even for active and power chewers. No. Farm Hounds hides are a single ingredient — beef hide (or hog hide, depending on the product). Nothing added. No flavoring, no preservatives, no binders. The natural smell and flavor comes from the hide itself, which is exactly what makes them so appealing to dogs.
Are the hides good for dental health?
Yes, hides are one of the most effective natural tools for dental hygiene. The extended chewing action scrapes plaque and tartar off teeth and strengthens gum tissue over time. Several customers specifically mention improvement in their older dog’s tartar buildup after making hides a regular part of their routine. A 15-minute session a few times a week can make a real difference.
Are Farm Hounds hides good for anxious dogs or power chewers?

What’s the difference between hairy and non-hairy hides?

Both are the same complete, unprocessed beef hide underneath. It’s mostly a preference thing, for the dog and for the human on the other end of the leash.
What’s the difference between hide rolls and hide chips?
Hide rolls are tightly wound sections of hide — great for sustained chewing sessions and best for medium to power chewers. Hide chips are smaller, flat pieces of hide that work well as a shorter engagement treat or as a training reward with some staying power. If your dog loves the taste and texture of hide but you want something they can finish in a sitting, chips are a great option.
Where do the hides come from?
All Farm Hounds hides are sourced from 100% pasture-raised, grass-fed cattle raised on American family farms. We work directly with our farm partners so we know exactly where every product comes from — no overseas sourcing, no anonymous supply chains. The hog hide products follow the same sourcing standard: farm-raised, humanely handled, and processed without chemicals.
How should I store the hides between sessions?
After a chew session, take the hide back (your dog will probably be disappointed), let it air dry completely, and store it somewhere out of sight. Out of sight means out of mind for most dogs, which helps the hide last longer between sessions. You don’t need to refrigerate them — just keep them in a cool, dry spot. A sealed bag or container works well if you’re in a humid climate.
